Fire damages famous Pamposh hotel in Srinagar

At least four firefighters were injured while trying to douse off flames at a prominent hotel in this capital city on Saturday.Reports reaching news gathering agency Global News Service said that around 1:30 pm today, fire raged from the attic of the six-storey hotel engulfing within an hour three stories of the building. The flames and the dark smoke emanating from the building brought local shopkeepers, fire fighters and policemen rushing to the spot.The locals of the neighbourhood Maisuma locality also rushed in large numbers to join the efforts to rescue the people caught in the hotel.The hotel houses several offices of New Delhi based English and Hindi news channels, as it is a prominent Landmark in the business hub of Lal Chowk in the city,Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Syed Abid Shah and other civil and police officials also rushed to the spot to oversee rescue operations.In the three-hour long operation, four fire fighters suffered injuries. Three of the injured firemen have been identified as Alamgeer and Mushtaq Ahmad, both of Gaw Kadal and Riyaz Ahmad of Habba Kadal. “All the people in the premises were evacuated safely. There’s no loss of life in this fire incident. We will probe it,” a police officer told GNS. (GNS)
