Excessive use of chemical fertilizers impairing soil fertility: Governor

Governor Acharya Devvrat said that zero budget natural farming (ZBNF) was the only solution to help farmers in doubling their income. Under this system, the farmers need not to spend even a single penny, and they get more benefits including as rejuvenating the barren land, minimising use of water and saving the environment etc.The Governor was speaking during the awareness camp organized under ZBNF by National Cadet Corps Company, 5 HP and Agriculture Department at Dharamsala in Kangra district on Wednesday. Food and Civil Supplies Minister Kishan Kapoor was also present on the occasion as a special guest. Cadets of three branches of NCC from Kangra, Mandi, Hamirpur and Bilaspur districts participated in the camp.Acharya Devvrat said that despite excessive use of chemical fertilizers, the production was declining and despite heavy chemical spray schedule on fruit plants, they were not sustainable for long.

 It was clear from this that the fertility of the land was getting impaired and the resistive capacity of plants had also reduced. He said that ill effects of chemical farming could be dealt with natural farming.He congratulated the state government for taking the mission seriously and making provision of Rs. 25 crore under Prakritik Kheti Khushhal Kisan Yojana for the welfare of farming community.The Governor called upon the youth to stay away from the drugs and take a resolution to make the drug-free Himachal. He said that drugs kill memory power, creativity, skills etc. and with collective efforts, it was possible to win the war against drug addiction. He said that all should contribute in the efforts being made by the government and administration to make a drug-free state so that the future of the younger generation could be saved.Project Director, ZBNF Rakesh Kanwar said that training camps related to natural farming would be organized from 30 September to 4 October in Palampur and from October 12 to 16 in Shimla.
