Article 35A Row: Police foil KEA Protest march towards High Court

Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) Wednesday staged a protest on  Wednesday in support of Article 35A that bars outsiders to seek jobs and purchase property in Jammu and Kashmir.Holding placards and shouting slogans, traders fraternity led by Farooq Ahmad Dar assembled at  Ghanta Ghar (clock tower) to lodge their protest where they held a peaceful sit-in.As soon as protesters marched  towards High Court police stopped them near Jahingir Chowk.Talking to reporters Kashmir Economic Alliance Co-chairman Farooq Ahmed Dar said that their  amalgam wanted to stage a peaceful protest and submit a memorandum to Chief Justice Jammu Kashmir High Court. He said a judicial assault is being launched by some vested interest elements for cheap publicity. “It is a direct attack on the autonomy of Jammu and Kashmir,” Dar said.Dar said that the protest is aimed to warn the government over attempt to abrogate Article 35-A in the state. “We won’t allow the government to abrogate Article 35-A in the state at any cost as the Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory and is enjoying its own constitution and powers, he said.Besides, Dar, Chairman Muhammad Yousef Chaprey, Vice Chairman Ajaz Ahmed Shahdhar and others were part of the protest.
