Tri-colour: Police file case against locals who ‘intimidated and thrashed’ a non-local political worker

Police rescued a right wing activist after he was thrashed by locals when he tried to display Indian tri-color at historic Lal Chowk of Srinagar city.Eyewitnesses said that three non-local youth from right wing political party emerged in peaceful city-centre Lal Chowk on Tuesday afternoon. As they took out tri-colour and tried to wave it, the passersby thrashed them. Two of them as per witnesses managed to escape from the spot; however, one political worker was manhandled by the locals. Timely action from police saved the activist from further thrashing.Witnesses told CNS that visibly agitated locals chanted pro-freedom slogans while police rushed to spot and successfully rescued non-political activist.The locals alleged that right wing political parties are sending their ‘brainless’ workers to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of Srinagar city. “Tomorrow is India’s Independence Day. There will be official functions where Indian tri-color will be hoisted. What was the need to hoist tri-color a day before Aug 15 celebrations. This is dirty politics being played by fanatic political parties of India,” said a passerby to news agency CNS.

Another witness said that some political parties are using Kashmir for political gains. “Non-locals don’t know anything about Kashmir. The right wing political parties befool people of India and are spreading hatred against Kashmir. Kashmir is a disputed region that needs to be addressed,” he said and alleged that fanatic political parties are hell-bent to disturb peace in Valley. Meanwhile, police issued a statement on Tuesday evening that read: “Today afternoon few persons came to Ghanta Ghar in connection with some political activity.“Some miscreants assembled at the scene and created disturbances by criminally intimidating them.”“Police Station Maisuma has taken cognizance by registering FIR No 27/2018 under section 341,506 and 323 RPC and investigation has been initiated in the instant matter.” (CNS)
