Deworming Drive: Ramban admin set target to cover over one 1.7 lakh children

Ramban admin has set the target to provide de-worming medicine to over 1.7 lakh children to mark the National Deworming Day.District Development Commissioner (DDC) Showkat Aijaz Bhat launched the deworming drive organised by Department of Health and Family Welfare in coordination with District Administration here at the Government Higher Secondary by providing medicine to the students.Chief Medical Officer Dr Safi-ud- Din Khan, Chief Education Officer, AHFani, Medical Superintendent DH, Dr D V Singh, Dy. CMO Dr. Iqbal Bhat, school Principal, District Youth Services and Sports Officer and other officer and officials of different attended the function.Addressing students, the DDC said that the main objective of the drive is to deworm children between the age of (1-19) at schools and Anganwadi centres.

Sharing the information about the problem, he said India has the highest burden of parasitic worms in the world. He said parasitic worms in children interfere with nutrient uptake, and cause anemia, malnutrition, and impair mental and physical development.He asked the students to disseminate the message in their areas regarding importance of sanitation and hygiene which forms the basis for   sound and healthy society.The CMO informed that more than 2000 officials of health department besides Anganwadi workers, school teachers and ASHA workers across the district Ramban are associated with the drive to ensure maximum coverage.  “The department has set the target to cover around 1,17659 children in 1-19 age group in 961 schools, Anganwadicentres, Madrassas and dropouts.
