'The time has come to join the hands for the prevention of day by day increasing rate of sexual crimes against children. If we do not join hands together now, then the situation will deteriorate further and future generations will never forgive us.' This was stated by Director, Social Security, Women and Child Development, Punjab and Secretary Punjab State Commission for Protection of Children Rights Smt. Kavita Singh while addressing the officials of Police, Health and Education Department & Social during a workshop on POCSO Act 2012 organized at auditorium of NIPER, SAS Nagar.Smt. kavita Singh said that problem of child exploitation was not confined to any single house rather it was a serious problem for society, which was a prime concern for all and to prevent this we have to think about this seriously. It was very shameful to know that incidents of father raping her daughter were happening in our society. We must behave like responsible citizens and to provide a secure atmosphere to our children was a primary responsibility of the society. As such, this would be possible only through unity and togetherness. She said that if any incident regarding child abuse came to notice them it must be directly reported to the concerned officials. 

She said that social security units were working in each district. She said that for the proper implementation of any law co-operation of society was must.Addressing the workshop Deputy Commissioner Smt. Gurpreet Kaur Sapra disclosed that this was the first workshop related with POCSO that was organized in the  District. Such workshops would also be organized at sub divisional level and moreover in school & colleges also. She said that the main objective of this workshop was to create awareness among the officials of police, health & education department regarding POCSO act, so that they could take appropriate action as per act in case any incident of children exploitation and sexual abuse came into notice. She assured that the the workshop would definitely gave positive results. During this she asked the concerned officials to strictly implement the POCSO Act and said that culprits would not be tolerated at any cost. She said that any negligence on the part of officers would not be tolerated. 

During this Prof. Rajesh Gill, Head Social Science Department, Panjab University, Chandigarh said that the society would not change with laws. It would change with the change in thought process only. As such, we have to change our thoughts and should play an important role for constituting a secure society. Supreet Dhiman of End Incest Trust said that 33 thousand 707 FIRs of sexual assault was registered in the year 2014 out of which 674 incidents were related with Incest assault. During this Dr. Upneet Lali explained in detail about the POCSO Act 2012 and Juvenile justice act 2015 and its amendments. During the workshop, Dr. Bhavneet Bharti and Sh. Neil Roberts from PGI also shared their views.During the workshop SSP Sh. Kuldeep Singh Chahal, Civil Surgeon Dr. Rita Bhardwaj, District Child Security Officer Navpreet Kaur, District Social Security Officer Ravinder Singh Rahi, District Program Officer Sukhdeep Singh, District Education Officer (Elementary) Gurpreet kaur Dhaliwal, Principle Govt. College Mohali Smt. Komal Broka, Deputy District Education Officer Ravinder Kaur, CDPO Arvinder Kaur along with officials of Police Administration, Health & various other departments were present.
