District Administration To Rope In Students For Generating Awareness In Drug Affected Areas

DC And CP Calls Upon Educational Institutes To Ask Students To Contribute In War Against Drugs

Aiming to take the anti-drug war waged by the state government at the grassroots levels, the district Civil and Police administration on Wednesday sought effective cooperation of the educational institutions for making the Jalandhar free from drug menace.Inviting the Educational Institutes to be an active part of Drugs Abuse Prevention Officers (DAPO) program which needs a determined multi pronged approach, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma and Police Commissioner PK Sinha said that the unbounded energy of youth would be channelized for creating awareness in the drug affected areas identified by the civil and Police administration. They said that the colleges must voluntarily adopt the areas inflicted where the students of their institute would work in tandem with the administration to make the people aware of scourge of drugs. They emphasized that the college youths have such aspiration and enthusiasm which can be aptly utilized for making Nasha Mukt Jalandhar.They told them that the aim of meeting is to engaging the college youths for countering the social stigma attached to drug problem for which they would be tasked in particular drug affected areas to mobilize the families of drug dependants for de-addiction treatment and would cover each house for the protection of vulnerable. 

They disclosed our teams will train the youths about how to identify the drug dependants and motivating their families for the detoxification of the formers through the government drug de-addiction centres in local civil hospital, Nurmahal, Outpatient Opioid Assisted Treatment (OOAT) centers in Jalandhar, Phillaur and Nakodar where outdoor health care services are already offered to the patients suffering from drug addiction.They appealed the college heads to personally persuade the youths for participating in this drive which would help them to contribute immensely in wiping out the menace completely from the state and developing  learn leadership qualities in them.The administration will also give certificates to participants for their services in the cause, they added. A power presentation regarding DAPO program was also shown to the heads of the college in the meeting.On the occasion, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Mr. Jitendra Jorwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr.Gurmeet Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police D Sudarvizhi and Mr. Mandeep Singh, SDM-II Mr. Paramvir Singh, Assistant Commissioner (Under Training) Mr.Himanshu Jain, SDM-1 Mr.Sanjeev Sharma, ACPs Mr. Gurpreet Singh, Mr. DS Buttar and Mr. Naveen Kumar besides heads of several colleges were present.
