Barnala DC sanctions Rs. 20,000, free medicines for Asian gold medalist

To inquire about the health condition of Asian Gold Medalist Hakam Singh, Deputy Commissioner Barnala Dharam Pal Gupta, on Monday, visited a private hospital in Sangrur and also, assured full financial assistance for bills of medicines. Later, DC also approved the cheque of Rs. 20,000 from Flag Day Fund of District Sainik Board.Dharam Pal Gupta said that following the directions of Punjab Government, they would provide every possible help to Hakam Singh. He added that the doctors of the private hospital informed that he has been diagnosed with end stage jaundice and his situation was critical but stable. He said that due to the ailment of liver, the level of infection in his body was very high.DC said, “We will remain in touch with doctors and government officials. We have also sent his report to higher authorities for further action plan to save his life.” He added that if the hospital will refer him to advanced health care institution, it will be done without any delay.Gupta said that the achievements of Hakam Singh are commendable as he made the nation proud by bringing two gold medals on various platforms. He added that Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has also been taking keen interest in this matter. He said that Incharge of Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) centre at Mastuana, Manjit Singh, has also been providing financial help to the family.
