Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon inspects sites for shifting Animal Husbandry Farms

Visits Fish Aquarium; calls for displaying new variety to attract tourists

Principal Secretary, Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon today visited Poultry Breeding Farm and Hatchery, and Cattle Breeding and Research Farm here at Belicharana which would be shifted to Nagrota and Chatha respectively for facilitating the expansion and extension of Jammu Airport.Divisional Commissioner, Sanjeev Verma, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Ramesh Kumar, Director, Airports Authority of India D.K Goutam, Director Animal Husbandry, Jammu Victor Kaul, Director, Fisheries R.N Pandita and other officers of the department accompanied the Principal Secretary during the tour.During his visit to the animal husbandry farms, Dr. Samoon called for putting in extra efforts for development of poultry, sheep and cattle to increase the mutton, milk and poultry production. He also inspected the sites where these two Farms of the Animal Husbandry Department would be shifted.Earlier, the Principal Secretary also visited Fish Aquarium, Bahu Fort and asked the department to display new variety of fish to attract the tourists. 

He also released pamphlets for the awareness of the visitors and promotion of the various activities undertaken by the department at Fish Aquarium.He was informed that the department has introduced two new fast growing and disease resistant variety of fishes including Pangasius and Pacu for the first time in the state and the trial culture of these fishes is being taken at Fish Farm, Dumi. Both the fishes are thriving well and shall be introduced in the private sector of the state to augment the fish production.It was further informed that the Fish Aquarium has 24 caves where about 120 different varieties of ornamental fishes are being kept for display and more than 5 lakh visitors visited the Aquarium and the department realized revenue Rs 95 lakh from during 2017-18.The Principal Secretary also inspected Fisheries Marketing Division Narwal, Fish Farm Nowabad and under construction building of Camp Office at Directorate of Fisheries to access the works being taken up by the department in Jammu. He directed for time bound completion of these projects, besides ensuring quality in their execution.
