Akali leaders join Congress

Two senior local Akali leaders today joined the Congress in presence of the former Chief Minister and the party candidate from Amritsar Capt Amarinder Singh.They include Ms Randhir Kaur, an ex-councillor from Ward 38 and Rajinder Singh Billa, vice president of the Amritsar District of the Shiromani Akali Dal.Talking to reporters, they said, they had joined the Congress to support Capt Amarinder Singh as he had always given preference to the interests of Punjab over his own. They said, there was an undercurrent of support from Akali cadres for Capt Amarinder as they considered Arun Jaitely to be an outsider.Welcoming them into the party, Capt Amarinder said, their support will be crucial in the elections. He said, they will be given all the respect, honour and dignity in the Congress.Among others present on the occasion included Gurjeet Aujla, Rajeev Bhagat, Rana Gurjeet Singh, Rana Gurmeet Sodhi, Raja Malwinder Singh, Gen (rtd) TS Shergill, Laly Jawandha, OP Soni, Sukh Sarkaria and others.
