The recent 3 days visit of Kejriwal in Punjab has shaken the Sikh Politics and the Sehajdhari Sikhs have extended their unconditional support to Kejriwal. In the past these Sehajdhari Sikhs had been playing a vital role in every elections by extending their unconditional support to the Congress against the SAD as their voting rights in the SGPC elections were curtailed by the NDA Govt in 2003.The Sehajdhari Sikh Party challenged it and the High Court has revived their vote right but the fate of 170 elected SGPC members have hung in balance as the case is pending adjudication in Supreme Court. Sehajdhari Sikh Party has broken its ties with the Congress as the Union Govt. failed to support their cause in Court rather contrarily supported the SGPC by filing affidavits against them. Sehajdhari Sikhs felt cheated and dubbed by the Congress and so they decided to go with Kejriwal. The National Executive Council passed a resolution in support of AAP and handed over to Mr.Munish Sisodhia. This will be a big gain for AAP as 75 lakh Sehajdhari Sikhs will support Kejriwal in Punjab said Dr.Paramjeet Singh Ranu National President of the Sehajdhari Sikh Party.
Strengthening his statement on authentic figures Dr.Ranu said that the 2011-12 Census report confirmed by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs states that the total Sikh population in Punjab is of 1.75 Sikhs. Out of which only 55 lakh Sikhs were enrolled by the Gurdwara Election Commission in the electoral roll during the SGPC elections 2011. If 50 lakh were deducted to be minors or non –eligible voters then still the remaining approx. 75 lakh Sikhs were directly ignored by the Gurdwara Election Commission in the SGPC elections declaring them as non-sikhs or patits. Whereas they are the people who have are Sikh(Sehajdhari Sikhs)as per official census report of the Union Govt.
Sehajdhari Sikh Party was the first to support veteran Anna Hazzare's anti-corruption crusade for Jan-Lokpal bill and gave dharnas and memorandums to the Governor Punjab for court arrests in Chandigarh on the call of Anna team in August 2011. Dr.Ranu added that more than 80 percent of the total world Sikh population is of the non-baptized (sehajdharis) Sikhs and during the SGPC elections the Akali Dal Badal treats them step-motherly but during general elections they try to harp on the vote bank of the youth of sehajdharis. He gave a slogan for the party “ Je Shiromani Commette vch vote nahi ta Akalidal lai koi support nahi” (Means if no vote in SGPC then no support for Akali dal)
Dr.Ranu said that his party was feeling much desperate as no common man could dream of contesting elections in this country because of the prevailing methodology of Indian politics which was over powered by money media and mafia, but now Arvind kejriwal has setup an example in the country that a common man can also dream of giving clean and strong governance if his efforts are honest and sincere. Its the need of the hour to restrain the communal forces like RSS-BJP to overpower the country and for that in the interest of national integrity and to safeguard the minorities, all secular forces should come on a common platform.
He further said that to save the future of Punjab it is a high time to wake up and come togather to fight against corruption, unemployment, narcotics, land mafia and vendata politics of groupism. For a real progressive Punjab its the need of the hour to implement progressive policies like as formulated by Mr.Kejriwal. He added that though at some place the selection of candidates have not been done on merits but forgetting all that the people should come forward for supporting the mission of Kejriwal to safe guard the minorities from the communal forces. This is the reason why Sehajdhari Sikh Party has extended its unconditional support to Kejriwal.
