The Third National Heart failure Summit and Live Workshop and Symposium on Interventional Cardiology began here today. Titled as Intervening To Save Hearts, the renowned international cardiologist Dr HK Bali is organizing it under the aegis of The Heart Foundation Chandigarh.Dr Bali said that it was largest ever conference held in the city with 113 faculty and 550 delegates attending it. World famous cardiologists from Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and abroad have landed.Interacting with media on the first day of the conference, Dr HK Bali said that highlight of the conference were two live demonstration sessions held on the ways to use various types of heart failure devices that was beamed live from the Fortis Hospital to summit site at JW Marriot Hotel. Dr Bali conducted both the sessions in the Cath Lab of Fortis, which doctors at JW Marriot not only saw it live but also asked live questions to Dr Bali. Complex coronary angioplasty via the radial route was demonstrated at the Symposium.

79 year old male with Heart attack three weeks back had been taken up for was planned for staged PCI. He suddenly became hemodynamically unstable and subsequent angiography revealed critical disease of the left-sided major artery. He underwent a life-saving angioplasty for the above mentioned. During the procedure two medicated stents were deployed in the artery. Steps of the procedure were discussed with the chairperson and panelists. Intracoronary imaging showed pristine stent deployment.During the second case, a complex carotid angioplasty was performed. A 70 year old ex- army person had a minor stroke three weeks back. Left carotid artery angiography revealed an unstable ulcerated plaque causing severe narrowing of the artery . If left untreated this would have led to a massive paralytic stroke causing significant debility . Using a brain protection device,  a self expanding stent was deployed to treat   the culprit vessel.

“Today’s morning session included experts’ talk on various aspects of heart diseases including latest in treating heart attack, severe coronary artery disease, heart failure, carotid artery disease, abdominal aortic aneurysms, aortic dissections, arrhythmias and this will continue till April 13 evening,” he said.An important aspect of the event is lecture on management of heart disease in patients with diabetes, kidney failure and peripheral artery disease. Experts will deliberate on steps to be taken to prevent heart disease in Indians particularly in young.
