Punjab’s Minister for Power, New and Renewable Sources of Energy Gurpreet Singh Kangar today congratulated the entire staff of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited for surpassing its own record this paddy season on July 9, 2018 by meeting with maximum ever demand of 12542 MW in the state and supplied 2675 Lacs units of energy without imposing any power cuts in Punjab. Last year on July 11 maximum demand for power was 11705 MW and PSPCL had supplied 2672 lacs units. He added that the Punjab government was in favor of encouraging sports culture among the youth and absorbing then in suitable avenues. Instead to boost of sports activities in state and particularly amongst the players associated with PSPCL, Powercom will be hosting matches of various sports activities in Bathinda, Patiala, Jalandhar and Ludhiana, It is pertinent mention here that the Powercom Board of Directors in its measure to prune the staff had proposed sports cell of PSPCL to be converted into a dying cadre.

This implied abolition of a post after retirement of the current officer holding a post, no promotions for those under him, coupled with no new recruitment. Since Punjab Police and PSPCL are the largest organizations in state giving dignified jobs opportunities to talented sports persons, this decision on the part of Power Minister is a welcome relief to the young players.Addressing a media query Mr Kangar said that when he took over as the Power Minister, the policy of giving jobs to kin of employees, who had died during service, on compassionate grounds had ceased t exist.
