No Private Institution To Levy Tuition Fee From Sc Students During Admissions

The Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes & Minority Welfare Minister, Punjab, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot has made it absolutely clear that the students belonging to the SC category cannot be deprived off the admissions all the private educational institutions of the state. He also divulged that the private institutions would not levy tuition fee from the students of SC category at the time of admissions because the Union Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry has issued a clarification concerning its letter issued earlier related to the levying of fees.Dharamsot further said that the Union Government in its latest letter has asked the State Governments as well as the Union Territories that the educational institutions can check the eligibility of the SC students with regard to their fulfilling the criteria pertaining to the Post Matric Scholarship at the time of admissions. If found eligible then the date of depositing of fee by such students can be extended till the scholarship amount gets deposited in the account of the concerned student. If need be the private educational institutions can take an undertaking from the student seeking admission that he/she would deposit the fee to the institution after getting the scholarship amount.The minister added that under the post matric scholarship scheme the directions with regard to the non-levying of fee from the SC students during their admission to the various educational institutions have been issued to the Heads of the concerned departments, Director Technical Education and Industrial Training department (Polytechnic & Engineering Wing), Director Technical Education and Industrial Training (I.T. Wing), Managing Director Punjab Health Systems Corporation, State Health and Family Welfare Institution, DPI Colleges, DPI Secondary Education, Director Research and Medical Education, Director Animal Husbandry and Director SCERT.
