Health Department To Distribute 5 Lakh Ors Packets And Zinc Tablets Among 0-5 Children

In order to keep the children healthy under the mission Tandrust Punjab, the health department on Monday started the Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight program in Ludhiana under which the teams will distribute 5 lakh oral rehydration solution (ORS) and zinc tablets among the children (0-5) of the district.The drive was formally launched by Ludhiana Central MLA Surinder Kumar Dawar in the civil hospital.District Immunization Officer (DIO) Dr. Jasbir Singh said that each household having children aged five will be covered by an extensive branch of health workers including Asha workers and auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs), who will conduct house to house survey.Singh stated that apart from the distributing the ORS packets and Zinc Tablets, the health teams will also give demonstrations into houses to how to prepare ORS solution when families should feed the solution to children so that it can protect children from this water-borne disease.

DIO told that separate health teams will go to schools to give training to children about the importance of washing hands before eating.He further told that the health teams visiting households will also keep the whole data of the detection of children and will report to the department so that special attention to be given towards them.The posters, banners, hoardings will be put into prominent locations and rallies will also be organized by department, DIO said and added demonstration and counselling corners will also be established at government health facility including district hospitals, community and primary health and Anganwari centers.He said that under this program, a special importance would also be given to promote exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life which yields tremendous health benefits to the child and protects them from many diseases.Meanwhile, MLA Surinder Kumar Dawar said that mission Tandrust Punjab is the result of visionary thinking of Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to improve the state’s air, water quality, and safe food by ensuring healthy and congenial environment to the citizens of Punjab.
