Baljinder Singh shows the way in horticulture sector with mango cultivation

Riding on the subsidy provided by the Punjab Government and own hardwork, Baljinder Singh from Village Ranjit Bagh has shown the new path to the farming community to break the stagnation in the agrarian circles of the state.Baljinder Singh who ones starts the cultivation of Mango in few acres now known as “mango king” in the district. Sharing his experience, he never fails to thank the Punjab Government who provides subsidy upto 75 % for plantation of mango trees. He said that it was started in 10 acres with the technical guidance of the horticulture department which now spread to 22 acres.Terming the regular income from the mango cultivation as a “life time Pension” he said that ones the mango trees starts production it needs little water and pesticides against the traditional crops wheat and paddy.Suggesting the farmers to adopt the horticulture, Ranjit Singh said that he earns more than Rs. 1.75 lakh from an acre which is far more than the other crops in the state.Meanwhile ,Deputy Director, horticulture Balwinder Singh has urged the farmers to start the cultivation of Mango as the Department would not only provide the subsidy under National Horticulture mission but also all kind of technical support and marketing guidance to the farmers. He also said that the interested farmers may contact the district horticulture office or Regional centre of PAU at Gurdaspur for any kind of information.
