In order to make dairy farming as a profitable profession in the State, the Punjab Government has upgraded the already existed two Bull Stations cum  Frozen Semen Banks at Nabha and Ropar, where semen straw of high breed’s bulls and male buffaloes are being provided to the cattle rearers.Giving details, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister, Punjab Mr.Balbir Singh Sidhu said that for the first time in northern India, with clean  room seman Processing, the 'High Bioscure Semen Production Lab' is developing  international standard of semen which is being investigated by the  Germanic system. The Punjab government has brought bulls of H.F. and Jersey breeds from America (via Embryo Transfer Technology), German and  Denmark to avail high quality semen to the progressive cattle farmers.Mr. Sidhu further said that the Punjab government would soon take major  decisions to provide benefits of all health care services at veterinary hospitals and to run the closed dispensaries so that departmental services could  be provided to the livestock farmers living in remote and rural areas. He said that a national level buffalo research center is being set up at Booh village  in Tarn Taran district for which Rs. 20 crores have been earmarked in the first budget.Talking about the achievement of State, Animal Husbandry  Minister further said that Punjab is making an annual milk production of 11811 thousand tones with only 2 percent of breedable cows and buffaloes,  which is 7.2% of the total milk production of the country. He said that per capita availability of milk in Punjab is 3 times higher than the national  availabilty. He said that along with the agriculture sector, department of Animal Husbandry was also significantly contributing to the development of the  state.
