DDC Poonch flags off anti-drug marathon

District Development Commissioner, Poonch Mohammad Aijaz Asad today flagged-off a marathon against drugs from Noto Auditorium to Indoor Stadium, Poonch on the eve of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.The marathon against drugs saw the participation of youth groups, senior citizens, students and officials from the government departments.The marathon organised by District Administration, Poonch aimed at sensitizing people about the harmful effects of drugs. It was an effort to make people aware about toxic effects of drugs and to instill in them the spirit of staying fit.ASP, DYSP DPL and officials from police department apart from members of civil society also participated in the marathon.The marathon was followed by various rallies, sports activities, symposiums and awareness campaigns in different colleges and schools of the district. Govt Higher Secondary School, Gunthal, Surankote and Girls Higher Secondary School, Mandi organised student rallies against drug abuse while symposiums and rallies were being organised by HSS, Boys, Surankote and HSS, Loran.

Speaking on the occasion, the DDC thanked all the participants, especially the senior citizens who had come in large numbers for the noble cause. He advised the youth to stay away from the menace of drug addiction and stressed on the need for moral education of the children and appealed both parents as well as teachers to ensure that children do not fall prey to this social evil.He informed that district administration will launch a vigorous awareness campaign against drug menace across the district and strict legal action will be taken against anyone involved in buying or selling of banned drugs.He further cautioned that this evil practice is eating up the generations and that he will take every step to practically involve the youth to work against this dreaded illegal act. He also urged the student community to concentrate on studies and also take part in sports and athletic activities.
