Residential sports wing of Punjab Govt. is proving beneficial for the sportspersons

Punjab Government is taking great initiatives for making a different identity of state at international level in the field of sports, as such, a residential sports wing is being operated by Punjab Govt. through Guljaar Wrestling Arena at Zirakpur. This wing provides free diet worth Rs. 200/- per day along with free accommodation to the sportspersons. The sportsperson getting trained from this combination of sports wing and area, have gained name and fame at international level and also secured good positions.Stating this District Sports officer Manohar Singh said that 10 sportspersons are residing here at residential sports wing operated by Punjab Govt., who have won many state level competitions. He said that the wrestling arena itself provides free coaching to the sportspersons residing here in the hostel. He said that approximate 60 boys and girls of residential sports wing and wrestling arena are getting coaching at here. He said that 22 sportspersons are residing in the hostel and 38 sportspersons are getting training as day scholars.District Sports Officer said that sportspersons are getting coaching of modern techniques from Coach Ranbir Kundu under the leadership of President R.K.Pehal and General Secretary Ranbir Singh. 

Explaining about the training wing, Coach Ranbir Kundu said that many sportspersons of this wing has gained name and fame and also marked their name at national level. He said most of the former sportsperson who obtained training from here and are presently working at very renowned posts, usually comes here for practice. Gurpreet Singh is a sportsperson who has been selected for Asian games and is presently serving as Sub-Inspector in Police. He is getting training from last 6 years from this institution. Similarly Prabhpoal, who has won Gold and Silver medals in Commonwealth games, is also working as a Sub inspector in Police. Such players still comes here for practice. Besides this Aaditta Kundu who has won Gold medal in commonwealth games, is a student of M.Com. and he is in regular touch with this institutions and comes here for practice.Explaining this District Sports Officer said that youngsters should choose sports as carrier. This will help in making Punjab a leading state in sports and state will also shine its name at international level in the field of sports. He said that healthy young generation represents a healthy state. Govt. is taking great initiative to encourage sports and its positive outcomes will be seen very soon.
