‘Atma Kisan Bazaar’ Proves A Boon For Progressive Farmers

ATMA Kisan Bazaar’ is proving a boon for the progressive farmers and self-help groups (SHGs) as they are able to sell their products on this platform which has been started by district administration since April 8. The market is being held at the office of district agriculture department from 3 pm to 7 pm on every Sunday.The main motive behind starting the bazaar is to provide a place to the progressive farmers and registered SHGs for selling their products without the presence any middlemen under Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) program.As per details since its inception, 11 bazaars have so far held where the farmers are selling the products in the range of Rs 5 to Rs 2000. The farmers have been earning the profit from 11 to 451 percent as per estimates.ATMA project director Jaswinder Singh Khera said that farmers use to sell vegetables, pickle, honey, wheat flour, pulses, milk, Chutney, and others products including various types of bags by SHGs. He said that no rent is being taken from the farmers and SHGs for installing their stalls in the market.Khera told that all products are organic which are safer and better. He added the Ludhiana residents have also given very energetic response to the market.Meanwhile, deputy commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal who played a key role in starting this project exhorted other farmers and SHGs to take maximum benefits of this market.
