Two policemen killed in Pulwama attack, 10 troopers injured in grenade attack

Two cops were killed while another was critically injured after suspected militants opened fire on security guards at Court Complex Pulwama in South Kashmir. The attack was carried out on the night of Shab-e-Qadar when devotees were busy in offering prayers at mosques.SSP Pulwama Chowdary Muhammad Aslam said that militants managed to escape from the spot after carrying deadly attack. He said that two cops were killed while another suffered injuries in the attack. He identified the deceased cops as Selection Grade Constables Ghulam Rasool and Ghulam Hassan. The injured cop Manzoor Ahmad has been shifted to SMHS hospital for treatment, he said.The area was cordoned off shortly after the attack, however, no arrests were made. Eyewitnesses said that there was intense firing. “It looked like a fidayeen attack to us,” they said.A Wreath laying ceremony of both the policemen was held at District Police Lines Pulwama.  

The ceremony was led by Inspector General of Police (Kashmir) SP Pani.Officers from both the police as well as civil administration were present during the ceremony, paying their homage to the slain policemen. The bodies of slain police men were later handed over to their respective families or last ritesReports said that thousands of people attended the last rites of slain policeman of Wohlutra Panzala Rafiabad in north Kashmir's Baramulla district.An eye witness said that thousands of mourners across Rafiabad, including men, women and elderly, assembled in Wohlutra Rafiabad, native village of one of a policeman Ghulam Hassan Wagay.Meanwhile, at least ten CRPF men were injured in a grenade attack by militants in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir early today.Militants hurled a grenade on CRPF party at Janglat Mandi in Anantnag. Ten CRPF personnel got minor injuries," a police spokesman said.He said all the injured were shifted to hospital for treatment where their condition is stated to be stable. (CNS)
