Ali Mohammad Dar chairs Environment Committee meeting

A meeting of the Committee on Environment of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council was held here today under the Chairmanship of MLC, Ali Mohammad Dar to discuss the environmental issues pertaining to the Pollution Control Board, Transport, Traffic, Health, Industries & Commerce and FCS&CA departments in the state.Legislators, Qaiser Jamsheed Lone, Girdhari Lal Raina and Pardeep Sharma attended the meeting and gave their valuable suggestions for safeguarding the environment of the state and urged for launching vigorous campaign to safeguard the water bodies and other natural resources in the state.The Committee discussed details regarding issuance of NOCs by Pollution Control Board in respect of establishment of macadamization plant at Chattergam, Budgam. This is in reference to the decision taken on 5th of March, 2018 upon Chairman Pollution Control Board, J&K and Director of Industries and Commerce, Kashmir to visit the spot in person.The Committee also discussed with regard to issuance of NOC issued by Pollution Conbtrol Board in respect of a stone crusher at Langate and Lolab in Kupwara District located at zero distance as well as brick kilns established at other places during last 3 years.The Committee also discussed on the latest status regarding cultivation of bung and other narcotic type crops throughout the state and concrete measures taken in this behalf. Latest status regarding issue of shifting of garbage dumping site located at Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu was discussed in the previous meeting.The Committee also discussed factual report regarding the dumping of garbage causing threat to the habitation located near Achan Eid Garh  (Ali Jan road Srinagar).To discuss the issue of increasing air pollution due to traffic congestion and measures taken to combat the challenge.Commissioner Secretary, Forest Saurabh Bhagat, PCCF, M M Panth, Director Environment and Ecology, Om Prakash Sharma, V C LAWDA, Hafeez Shah, besides senior officers of concerned department and Council Secretariat were present in the meeting.
