The Industry and Commerce Minister, Punjab, Mr. Sunder Sham Arora has said that the Punjab Government has fulfilled its promise made to the people during the polls. He said that the debt worth Rs. 96.36 crores of 10481 farmers of the District Hoshiarpur has been waived off so far. The minister was addressing a function held here today at the garden court palace with regard to the debt waiver of farmers.In his address, the minister said that the Punjab Government led by the Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh is undertaking every step for the welfare of farming community. Giving details, he said that under the debt waiver scheme 2,02,111 farmers have been given the relief to the tune of Rs. 999.67 crore apart from promulgating specialised measures to exhort farmers to come out of the traditional crop cycle by adopting innovative modern techniques thus leading to increase in their income. 

The minister also divulged that Punjab is the only state to give debt waiver relief upto Rs. 2 lakh to the farmers. Mr. Arora further elaborated that in the functions held at sub-division level today, the debt waiver certificates amounting to Rs. 74.81 crore have been distributed to 6830 farmers of the district. Earlier, in a function held at Gurdaspur the 3651 farmers belonging to Hoshiarpur saw their debts amounting to Rs. 21.57 crore waived. So, till now the debt worth Rs. 96.38 crore of the 10481 farmers of Hoshiarpur District stands waived off.On the occasion, MLA Shamchurasi and President District Congress Committee Mr. Pawan Kumar Adia lauded the debt waiver scheme and disclosed that in the decade long rule of the previous regime the farming sector of Punjab got crushed under the heavy debt burden.He also said that the present government has waived off the debt of farmers thus providing big relief despite inheriting empty treasury from the previous regime.In his address, MLA Chabbewal and Chairman SC Department of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee Dr. Raj Kumar said that the scheme, which is a product of the constructive approach of the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, has been implemented without bias. 

He further elaborated that the state government is giving fillip to the industrial sector so as to ensure maximum employment avenues to the youth with the Industry Minister of the state making special efforts to establish new industrial units in the district.After this, the Cabinet Minister Mr. Sunder Sham Arora, MLA Mr. Pawan Kumar Adia and MLA Dr. Raj Kumar jointly distributed debt waiver certificates to the farmers of their respective constituencies. The Chief Guest and other dignitaries were also honoured.On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Vipul Ujjwal, SDM Hoshiarpur Mr. Jitendra Jorwal, Tehsildar Mr. Arvind Prakash Verma, MD Cooperative Bank Mr. Amandeep Brar, Deputy Registrar Mr. Gurpreet Singh and Mr. Happy Sood were also present.
