Traffic mess, wrong parking continues, commuters suffer in Srinagar city

The expectations that traffic mess in Srinagar city may overcome were dashed to ground as thousands of vehicle struggle to move every day on the busy roads of the capital.Commuters alleged that the authorities unable to remove the complicated snarls. They said that the situation worsened after the bus stand was shifted from Batamaloo to Parimpora with an aim to decongest the city traffic.Pertinently the bus stand was shifted in August last by the orders of the state high court, which directed the concerned authorities to disallow vendors on pavements and roadsides.Despite the orders, the implementing authorities failed to bring any respite to the people and commuters. Hundreds of vehicles and vendors continued to occupy the most part of the roads in the city center areas.It is being observed that in last couple of months the strength of vendors has even increased.Reports reached to PTK said that the traffic movement in the areas like Amira Kadal, Jehangir Chowk, Budshah Chowk, Residency Road, Moulana Azad Road, Regal Chowk, Polo View, Zero bridge, TRC, Dal gate, Hazratbal, Khanyar and other areas of city witnessed massive congestions for most time every day. 

Commuters complained that they used to remain stuck for hours in these areas. They said the traffic cops tried their best to ease out the situation but seems helpless in dealing with the menace.A commuter while talking to Press Trust of Kashmir said that the traffic police men are trying their best to remove traffic jam but they were not able to overcome it because of the huge traffic density.Another commuter said that there is chaos everywhere. “The rush of traffic on city roads have increased manifold. The appearance of mini buses has increased the traffic flow, however the problem has been compounded by less number of traffic cops to regulate vehicular movement”, he said.He added that hundreds of vehicles remained parked in no parking slots.  Adding that, a large number of two wheelers are also parked at no parking slots and roadsides.“Wrong parking has subjected hundreds of commuters to inconvenience”, commuters said.Commuters said that authorities have so far failed to take necessary measures to put an end to the wrong parking menace.
