To celebrate the occasion of 64th Republic day the Department of Information and Public Relations today organized a cultural extravaganza.Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand was chief guest on the occasion.The cultural programme was organised with the collaboration of Government College of Women, Gandhi Nagar. Niaz, Director, Information Mr. Zaffar Ahmad Bhat, Director, Youth Services & Sports Mr. J.P. Singh, Executive Director, Mubarak Mandi Heritage Society Mr. Soujanya Sharma, Principal, GCW, Gandhi Nagar, Dr. Kiran Bakshi, Joint Director, Information Mr. Inderjeet, officers and staff of the department, prominent members of civil society and media persons attended the function.The scintillation cultural program showcased composite cultural heritage of the State and left the jam-packed audience spell bound.While complimenting people on the Republic Day¸ the Deputy Chief Minister said that with the joint efforts of government and people, the state is marching fast on the path to development and prosperity.

He recalled the enduring commitment and sacrifices of patriots for the motherland and called upon the citizens to contribute in Nation building. India has shown remarkable achievements in varied fields and is one of the strongest global economy, he added.“On the day we must reaffirm our pledge to fulfill the cherished dream of freedom fighters, who had envisioned independent India as a strong, secular and democratic Nation,” he added.Mr. Tara Chand paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and other stalwart leaders of the country and recalled the commitment of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar for giving the nation a master piece document of governance in shape of the Constitution. He said Dr. Ambedkar as head of the constitution drafting committee toiled for drafting a detailed constitution which guarantees equal rights to all and ensures the ideals of strong democratic nation are upheld.“We also salute jawans as well as officers of military, para-military and police who have tireless work for ensuring that our country stands tall against all kind of threats,” he added.He said government is committed for equitable development of all three regions of the state and various development initiatives have been taken to uplift socio-economic profile of the state. He said with the active support of central government the state government is working on the road map to make the state a model state.

The Deputy Chief Minister lauded the Information department for presenting great show and for its extraordinary contribution in disseminating information at various levels.Earlier Mr. Zaffar Ahmad welcomed the dignitaries and presented a brief resume of the activities of the department. Tributes were also paid to iconic Dogri singer Ghulam Mohammad who passed away yesterday.The colorful cultural programme depicted the composite culture of the state and showcased varied dance forms of all the three regions. The items included Sarasvati Vandana, Dogri Dance by GCW Gandhi Nagar, Ghazal by Mr. Jeevan Sharma, Kashmiri Dance by GCW Parade, Dogri Song by Ms Anupama Verma, Ladakhi dance, Punjabi Giddha by Shiksha Niketan School, Rajasthani Dance and Bhangra.The Deputy Chief Minister along with Director and Joint Director presented mementos to the participating teams.
