The Union Minister for Food Technology Harsimrat Kaur Badal today asked the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh  to stop looking for alibis for  expunging Sikh history from the syllabus and books meant for the Class 12 students of the Punjab School Education Board and to restore the old books containing detailed chapters on Punjab and Sikh history. In a statement here, Ms Badal said that it was strange that the Chief Minister was shifting stands from “no changes” to “changes made by previous govt.” while saying  nothing about the publication of new books which do not contain  the 23 detailed chapters on Punjab and Sikh history but contained an exhaustive study of the history of the Congress party.Ms Badal ridiculed the CM’s allegation that chapters on Sikh history had been deleted during the Akali regime. “Why has the CM not accepted the Akali challenge to produce old history books from the SAD-BJP period and the new books being printed now to prove us wrong? The fact is that they are feeling the pressure of the Sikh masses and have withdrawn the few books printed already  with the guilty syllabus, and are now  hurriedly getting fresh books printed to be shown to the media. But they have already loaded the contents on the website. Why have they backed off from accepting the Akali challenge to show old and new books to the media straightaway. And why is the CM shifting his stand daily?”

she asked. Ms Badal said that the CM was trying to mislead the people by claiming that the syllabus had been changed during Akali regime in 2013. “ If that were true, then how come that the Board kept distributing books containing all the  disputed 23 chapters on Punjab and Sikh history with pictorial illustrations on the Gurus’ era during the Akali BJP regime? If the syllabus was changed in 2013, then why do they have to print new books with a new syllabus now? Why not continue with the books already being taught from 2013 to 2017?” Ms Badal questioned the CM.The Union Minister said that the fact was that the officers had put the CM in an indefensible position by putting him in front to defend their sins. The CM should have preferred to hold an inquiry instead of claiming responsibility for the sins of his officers.Ms Badal said that the CM’s claim that the 23 chapters which were being taught in class 12 earlier had been shifted to class 11 was also not only incorrect but also misleading. “The SAD has dared him to produce the new book for class 11 containing all the 23 chapters which have been deleted from the class 12 syllabus. They have not obliged. The fact  is that in there hurry to accommodate the history of the anti-Sikh Congress party, they have played havouc with chapters on Sikh history.”Badal said that it was still not too late for the CM to order a restoration of the old books containing detailed Punjab and Sikh history and order and inquiry into how this mischief was played.
