Justice Shiavax Jal Vazifdar Inaugurates Crèche & Child Counselling-Cum-Mediation

Hon’ble Mr.Justice S.J.Vazifdar, Chief Justice, Punjab and Haryana High Court inaugurated the CRÈCHE in the premises of the High Court for children of the employees and lawyers. Hon’ble the Chief Justice also inaugurated Child Counselling-Cum-Mediation Room in Court Room No.60.the CRÈCHE has been made in conformity with the ‘The Maternity Benefit Act, 1961’ which provides that every establishment having fifty or more employees shall have the facility of CRÈCHE. The foundation stone of the CRÈCHE was laid on 24th January, 2018 and thereafter under the supervision and directions of the Hon’ble Building Committee of the High Court headed by Chairman Hon’ble Mr.Justice Surya Kant, the work of opening the CRÈCHE was completed at immense pace with the co-operation of the Chandigarh Administration.The admission to the CRÈCHE will be on the first come first serve basis. Similar CRÈCHE under the supervision of the Building Committee is also likely to be opened in the near future at the Old Court Building in High Court Extension, Sector – 17, Chandigarh.

Special attention was paid by Hon’ble Ms.Justice Ritu Bahri during the upcoming of the CRÈCHE as well as Child Counselling-Cum-Mediation Room. For the Child Counselling-Cum-Mediation Room special contributions have been made by Hon’ble the Chief Justice, the families of Hon’ble Mr.Justice M.M.S.Bedi, Hon’ble Mr.Justice Jitender Chauhan, Hon’ble Mr.Justice Augustine George Masih, Hon’ble Mr.Justice A.L.Bahri (Retd.) and other Lordships’ in the form of useful gift items such as cot, books, paintings etc.Court Room No. 60 provides an atmosphere which is friendly and conducive to children who accompany their parents to court proceedings while making a departure from its usual court atmosphere. Special female attendants have been deputed to ensure safety of children and for the upkeep and maintenance of the room. The arrangements have also been made for tea, coffee and soup vending machines.The Child Counselling-Cum-Mediation Room is also used aschildren’s Waiting Rooms and Day care centre which provides all facilities to children whose parents are attending a court hearing as a litigant. These are specially designed waiting rooms just for children with access to colouring books, toys, computer games, stuffed toys, blackboard and much more.
