Gunmen fired upon political worker in Pulwama, killed

A political worker Ghulam Nabi Patel was shot dead by suspected militants in Pulwama district of South Kashmir today.Patel was killed when militants fired at his escort at Rajpora Chowk. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he passed away.His two police guards suffered injuries in the attack. They have been identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad of Handwara and Bilal Ahmad Dar of Kangon Pulwama.SSP Pulwama Mohammad Aslam Chaudhary confirmed Press Trust of Kashmir the killing of Patel. He said that a case has been registered.Patel, who is a resident of Dangerpora Shadimarg, was coming to Pulwama from Yader when the incident happened. Reports inform that Patel, who was earlier also associated with Congress, was shot at three times from a close range with an AK assault rifle. While two bullets hit him in the chest, one hit his shoulder.Meanwhile Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has condemned the killing of. The Chief Minister has expressed sympathies with the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.Meanwhile Omar Abdullah also condoled the killing of political worker.“What terrible news to start the day with here. My heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased & prayers for the injured. Allah Jannat naseeb karay,” Omar wrote on Twitter. Congress also strongly condemning the killing of Patel. The J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) spokesperson expressed profound grief and sorrow over the killing and described it as highly shameful and dastardly act. (PTK)
