LMD Jammu penalizes Bazaar India Jammu, recovers Rs 1 lakh penalty

Under the supervision of Controller Legal Metrology J&K R.K Katoch, A team of Officers of Enforcement wing of Deputy Controller Legal Metrology Enforcement Jammu headed by Ajay Verma conducted checking at Bazaar India, a unit of M/S Mayasheel Retail Ltd at Hari Market Jammu.During inspection of more than 10 products including Milk serving mug, Glasswares, drinking water bottles for School Children, shoes etc were inspected for their compliance with regards to various provisions of Legal Metrology Package commodities Rules 2011. Some of the products were found to be not adhering to the provisions of Legal Metrology Packages Commodities Rules 2011.Accordingly, the Department seized the said products management of Bazar India was booked for sale of products without mentioning of all the mandatory declarations on them by the manufacturers of the products and the Challan was booked against the management. After going through the No. of correspondences with the Company Representatives and on the request and assurance of the Company not to repeat the same fault in future, the booked Challan was compounded and the penalty of 1.0 Lakh was imposed on the trader.

The Department also inspected the various stationary shops at Janipur and adjoining areas and booked one stationary shop for not declaring mandatory declaration on the package of as per Legal Metrology Package commodities Rules 2011and the notice was issued for attending the office of the Deputy Controller Legal Metrology Enforcement Jammu for further Legal proceedings.The Department has directed all the traders to use only those Weights and Measures and weighing and Measuring Instruments for Business transactions which have been duly verified and authenticated by the legal Metrology Department and ensure that   Maximum Retail Price(MRP), Date of Packing (PKD), Net Contents and complete address of the Manufacturer/ Packer and Consumer Care Number have been declared on the Commodities to be sold in package form as per PCR.The Department has also warned the unscrupulous traders to desist away from using unfair trade and anti consumers Practices to cheat the innocent Consumers and also appealed to the Consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing the Commodities. The inspector Legal Metrology Jagdeep Raj Jammu upper and Sumit Bhardwaj accompanied the team.
