Chandigarh 29-Mar-2014

It seems like I have returned home after a long time. I have spent many years here and know the city inside out. It must be heartening to know that your future prime minister has good understanding of issues in Chandigarh. This is how the Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi connected with the huge crowd gathered at his ‘Bharat Vijay Rally, at Exhibition Ground, Sector 34 on Saturday evening. The dais was shared by the BJP’s MP candidate for Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat, Kirron Kher, Deputy CM, Punjab, Sukhbir Singh Badal, Party-In-charge, Chandigarh, Arti Mehra, State President, Sanjay Tandon, former union minister, Harmohan Dhawan, senior leader, Satyapal Jain, Leader of Opposition MC, Arun Sood, Vice President, Raghubir Lal Arora, Former Presidents Jai Ram Joshi, Yashpal Mahajan, Kamla Sharma and Dharam Pal Gupta.

Hitting at the UPA government and its wrong policies, he said, “The democracy means that its leaders should serve the common man. For the first time in these Lok Sabha Elections, our countrymen are realizing that Congress government has become a burden and is dangerous for the growth of the nation. Bad governance is like diabetes which is killing the nation”.  Calling Rahul Gandhi, a ‘Shehzade’ (Prince) he said, “Some people are born in silver spoon and I have grown up by selling tea. Today, the UPA government is worried on the fact that how could a tea-seller challenge them.  I look for the solution of the problems being faced by the common populace while the congress is looking for a way out to stop Modi because they know where they will be after May 16”.Adding to it, Modi averred that Rahul Gandhi said that Modi was an ideology. “I am proud of the fact that I was born from an ideology. Yes, we have an ideology and our ideology is society which is above family. Mother India is everything for us and our ideology is that we will live and die for the country”, he said.

Seeking the support from the common man, he said, “You have seen rulers for 60 years, now give a servant an opportunity for 60 months. I will bring good governance, provide education, better infrastructure, create job opportunities for the youth, conducive-environment for the business community and open up avenues of growth for the middle class. Besides there will be programmes to alleviate poverty”.    Lambasting at the scam-ridden Congress Party, he said, “Corruption is a part of Congress. Mahatma Gandhi wanted that the Congress should be dissolved and it is our duty today to fulfil his dreams. ‘Congress Mukt India’ is the stepping stone for a corruption free India. I want to ask the Congress why was Pawan Kumar Bansal removed from the Railway Ministry and why did the party make him a candidate for the LS Elections? By fielding the scam tainted candidates, the congress has made it clear that party has no will to end the corruption”.

Talking about the issues of the city beautiful, Narendra Modi said, “UT comes under the portfolio of the Home Minister and Chandigarh has not been visited by the home minister even once. The city has been neglected by the Congress government in the last 10 years.  Chandigarh could become an educational hub and could emerge as tourist hub. But the Congress party showed no will to change the fortunes of the city”.  On this occasion, Narendra Modi sought the blessings from the crowd and appealed to the people to vote for the local MP candidate of the BJP, Kirron Kher.He referred to the first names of the sitting Congress MP, Pawan Kumar Bansal and BJP candidate, Kirron Kher to make that air and sunshine remark. “Don't let the winds of corruption blow in Chandigarh. There should be an end to ‘Brashtachar ki Pawan’ otherwise nation will be ruined. ‘Vikas Ki Kiran’ should reach everywhere so that Chandigarh could realize the dream of development”, said Modi while concluding his speech.   The rally was also addressed by Kirron Kher who highlighted all the issues of the city and talked about the response of her poll campaigns. She also appealed to the people to support her onApril 10 to get rid from the non-performing Congress rule.

While addressing the gathering, Sanjay Tandon said, “People from different walks of life and of all ages have come to the rally. The huge crowd indicates that BJP is inching towards the victory. The congress government failed to address the important issues of the city like conversion policy, Lal Dora, land acquisition, SC certificates and housing Board issues in the last 15 years. If you want to have balanced Rent Act,  regularization of need based changes in the houses, Affordable housing, Slum free Chandigarh, Proper implementation of MSME Act, reduction in VAT, flyovers and underpasses, single window system and people friendly administration then vote for BJP”.Besides, the Deputy CM, Sukhbir Singh Badal and senior political leaders Satya Pal Jain and Harmohan Dhawan also spoke on the occasion.
