DC reviews status of restoration works on kuhls near Chutak Hydel Project

Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Haji Gulzar Hussain reviewed the action taken report with regard to the temporary and permanent restoration works of irrigation kuhls near the headwork of 44 MW Chutak Hydel Project here today.Former CEC Kargil and Councillor Baroo Haji Muhammad Hanifa Jan, Councillor Choskore Sheikh Muhammad Raza, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Imteeaz Kacho, Senior Manager NHPC Kargil R.P Singh, Executive Engineers of Mechanical and I&FC Divisions, other concerned officers besides representatives of Youkma Minjee, Gongma Minjee, Gond Minjee, Titichumik Baroo and adjoining areas were present in the meeting.During the meeting, the DC directed the NHPC authorities to complete the remaining temporary and permanent restoration works in due course of time so as to mitigate sufferings of Minjee and adjacent villages due to the shortage of irrigational water.

The DC exhorted upon the concerned officers to charge water in the irrigation kuhls within two days time without fail so as to prevent damage to crops in the villages fed by these water bodies. He also directed the Senior Manager NHPC Kargil and his engineers to actively pursue the DPRs submitted for permanent restoration of the kuhls and fixed June 2018 as the deadline to kick-start work on these projects.Meanwhile, on demand of the representatives of the affected villages, the DC directed the concerned to pay compensation on account of damage to crops to the villagers of Youkma Minjee, installation of lift pump for Stikchay area and immediate clearance of boulders and sludge from Minjee Gund Kuhl.The Deputy Commissioner also directed for constitution of joint teams comprising the officers of NHPC, Revenue and I&FC departments for preparation of DPRs for permanent restoration of left out kuhls besides to assess the crop damages due to the unavailability of water.
