Day-2: Normal life continues to remain paralyzed in Kashmir

For second consecutive day today normal life continued to remain paralyzed in Kashmir as mass grief outpoured against Shopian killings.Commercial establishments and offices remained closed, while public transport remained off the roads. Educational institutions also remained closed across Kashmir.In summer capital Srinagar, particularly old city, curbs were imposed by authorities to thwart any attempts of people taking out any protest demonstrations.Contingents of forces personnel arrived in the morning and enforced restrictions in old city areas. In uptown areas of Srinagar scattered private vehicles were seen plying on roads.South Kashmir districts continue to remain tense, where militant and civilian killings took place on Sunday. Internet remains shut over there. Roads in southern districts of Kashmir wore a deserted look with government forces manning the streets.

Similar reports have been pouring in from central and north Kashmir districts. The call for shutdown was given by separatist amalgam of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik who have been put under detention.13 militants, four civilians and three army soldiers were killed in day long clashes in Shopian and Anantnag districts on Sunday. Over 200 protesters were injured in forces' action.Meanwhile Muslims in Kishtwar district also observed a complete shutdown to mourn the killing of four civilians in Shopian district.The strike call was issued by the Imam Jamia Masjid Kishtwar, Farooq Ahmed against the killings of four civilians in forces’ action in Shopian district on Sunday.
