Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta today urged the people to develop water saving habits and use the precious natural resource judiciously to save it for future generations.The Speaker was addressing a gathering during an advocacy workshop organized by PHE Urban Circle, Jammu on “Water, Sanitation and Hygiene” at Jal Bhawan.The workshop was organized with an objective to create awareness among masses and sensitization of the allied departments for the conservation of water and preservation of water bodies. A mela was also organized for the general public to get their water samples tested in Water Testing Laboratory at Jal Bhawan.Speaking on the occasion, Kavinder Gupta asked the concerned to conduct such workshops in urban as well as rural areas on regular basis for creating awareness among the masses about the benefits of saving water.Highlighting the need for conservation and economic usage of water, the Speaker stressed that grass root level awareness is needed to make every drop count.

He further stressed for identifying and plugging the leakages instantly and asked the people to fix float valves in their storage tanks to avoid wastage of water and pay their water bills on time.The experts and engineers hailing from line organizations including P.K Nanda, Former Honorary Secretary IEI Jammu Local Centre, Rajeev Khajuria, Founder Emeritus NDF Jammu, Dr Shahid Hussain from Health Department, Gopal Sharma from CCDU Deptt and Rakesh Gupta Central Water Commission Jammu gave  their presentations on the occasion.Superintending Engineer, PHE Mechanical Urban Circle Jammu Ajay Singh Wazir, in his address, informed the people about the benefits of water conservation and rain water harvesting. New innovative strategies are to be devised so as to percolate the message of water conservation, sanitation and Hygiene to the common masses, he added.The awareness programme was attended by locals, Executives Engineers, Assistant Executive Engineers and officers of various allied departments.
