DDC Shopian reviews progress of works under SBM

District Development Commissioner Shopian, Mohammad Aijaz today convened a meeting to review the progress made under Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) in the district.The meeting was attended by Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Assistant Commissioner Development, Executive Engineer (REW), District Panchayat Officer, all Block Development Officers, Village Level Workers, and other concerned officers. On the occasion, the DDC said that six blocks have been declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) out of the total nine. He directed for taking necessary steps in ensuring the completion of targets under SBM so that the entire district can be declared ODF soon.The concerned officers apprised the DDC about the activities, programmes and other IEC campaigns initiated by the various departments under SBM with the help of locals.The DDC exhorted upon the officers for making the people aware about ill effects of poor sanitary conditions. He asked the officers to introduce innovative techniques for disposing the waste materials from the streets and directed them to utilize funds judiciously by focusing on improving hygiene.During the meeting, the DDC was informed that the solid waste management centre at Keegam involving an estimated cost of Rs: 10.50 lakh shall be completed very soon.The meeting also discussed the Action Plan for Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) for the year 2017-18 involving the construction of 37,624 Individual House Hold Latrines (IHHL) and 14 Community Sanitary Complexes in which 31,431 Latrines have been completed so far.The DDC directed all the officers and officials to work with due diligence as the department has the capacity to bring appreciable improvements at the ground level.
