Handicrafts Deptt organizes awareness camp at Pulwama

Department of Handicrafts today organized an awareness camp at Pulwama in which District Development Commissioner Ghulam Mohammad Dar was the chief guest.The camp was aimed at to give a fillip to the handicraft industry and encourage the local youth to take up handicraft manufacturing as a profession.The awareness programme was attended by A D Handicraft Beenish Wani, other officers of the department, besides a large number of artisans and local people.Speaking on the occasion,   the DDC said that handicrafts industry being the foremost traditional industry has played an important role in generating the livelihood and employment, besides representing the unique culture and tradition of our valley.He further said that the sector is a major source of income for weaker sections especially artisans of the rural community.Dar further stressed on an integrated approach for linking of flagship schemes like Hunnar and UMEED with the handicraft department and said that maximum advantage should be taken from these schemes.He further said that provision of loan assistance is also available for the artisans to set up their income generating units and urged upon the prospective artisans to come forward and avail benefits of various schemes of the department meant to improve their socio-economic condition.On the occasion, DDC also announced Rs 3 lakh for the establishment of tribal centres in the district.
