PCI initiates process for facilitating media students from JK to gain relevant skills, experience in the field

In its endeavor to facilitate journalism students from J&K to gain relevant skills and experience in the field, the Press Council of India (PCI) has initiated the process for their placement in various national newspapers for internship.To begin with, the Malayala Manorama, one of the leading media organizations has offered two weeks Internship to two journalism students from J&K at the office of Malayala Manorama at Kottayam in Kerala.The Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) has invited online applications from the journalism students of J&K interested in joining the said internship. Interested students can submit their application on jdinformationjk@gmail.com.The final selection of two students for the said internship will be done from amongst the shortlisted candidates on the basis of interview.Pertinently, during the full council meeting of Press Council of India (PCI) in Srinagar last year, the Chairman PCI Justice (Retd) C K Prasad interacted with the students of journalism studying in various media institutions in Jammu and Kashmir.During his interaction, Chairman PCI assured the students that PCI would come up with some special scholarships and internship programmes for young media pass outs from J&K to facilitate them to get working experience in their field of journalism.
Later, on the invitation of PCI, the journalism students from the state also participated in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Press Council of India held at New Delhi.The valedictory event of Golden Jubilee celebrations was inaugurated by the Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu. He welcomed the participation of media students from Jammu and Kashmir in the National Press Day event.During the function, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Textiles, Smriti Zubin Irani also lauded the media students from J&K who were present at the Golden Jubilee function of the Press Council of India (PCI).Addressing the function, she also highlighted the need to provide such platforms to the students of Jammu and Kashmir so that they would get opportunity to broaden their horizon and gain experience in the field of journalism.
