Haryana, UP sign agreement for reciprocal state transport services

In a step to strengthen transport facilities in both states and their connectivity, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh on Friday signed a Reciprocal Transport Agreement, an official said.The agreement, signed at the inauguration day of the 32nd Surajkund International Crafts Mela in Faridabad in presence of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and his Uttar Pradesh counterpart Yogi Adityanath, will facilitate state transport buses of both states to operate more in each other territory.Haryana's Additional Chief Secretary, Transport, R.R. Jowel and UP's Principal Secretary, Transport Aradhana Shukla signed the agreement on on behalf of their states.Speaking on the occasion, Khattar described the day as an important day for the people of both states which share a long border, saying it "will also facilitate economic activity as well as easy access to traffic".Adityanath said that after he took over, the government has considered similar proposals for transportation in several states and such agreements have also been made with Rajasthan and Uttarakhand."Western Uttar Pradesh and Haryana are no different from anywhere, and both the states are having been associated for thousands of years. Lord Krishna was born in Uttar Pradesh, he delivered the holy message of Gita in Haryana," he saidThe agreement, inked after 35 years, will see 423 buses of Haryana Roadways will operate 66,420 km on 256 routes daily in Uttar Pradesh, while 522 UP buses will operate 50,034 km daily on similar number of routes. As per previous agreement, Haryana was operating 10,362 km daily in UP ad Uttar Pradesh state on 8,116 km daily in Haryana.Uttar Pradash is the 'Theme State' of the Mela this year
