Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Yasin Malik demand justice to Sopore massacre victims

Chairmen of both factions of Hurriyat Conference and JKLF on Saturday paid tributes to victims of 1993 Sopore massacre and demanded the culprits be brought to book.In a statement issued to GNS, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani said all the “gruesome massacres” be investigated by the international probe agencies.Criticising the international community, Geelani said, “Their silence over these gruesome and heart wrenching incidents is painful and their tall claims and rhetoric for their fight against state sponsored terrorism proved mere hoax.”The Hurriyat (G) chairman demanded investigation into all the massacres by the United Nations sponsored war crime tribunal.“Indian armed forces were committing serious war crimes in Jammu and Kashmir. The common man in Kashmir will continue to suffer till the international community takes serious action in this regard,” he said.Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq while paying rich tributes said after two-and a half-decades, “the tragic heart wrenching images of that day continue to haunt us while justice eludes the families of those killed in the barbaric incident as the perpetrators of the crime roam scot free”.

In a statement issued to GNS, Mirwaiz said, “Forces had created mayhem by torching around 120 residential houses and 400 shops and other commercial establishments razing them to the ground.”Mirwaiz who continues to be under house arrest, said while Government of India rightly asks Britain to apologise for the gruesome killing of Indians at Jalianwala Bagh, New Delhi should also apologize for all the massacres committed by its forces in Kashmir.“Those forces personnel involved in the massacre of civilians and damaging property worth billions should be brought to book and punished accordingly,” he said.Hurriyat (M) chairman also expressed his grief and heartfelt condolence over the death of many people and children due to avalanche at Kupwara district. He expressed sympathy and extended solidarity with the families of those who died in the incident. Mirwaiz also expressed grief over the death of six people killed in the road accident at Ram Nagar Jammu.

In a statement issued to GNS, Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik while recalling the “brutal act of genocide” by Indian forces at Sopore said, “The so-called rulers, their police and agencies, which are hell bent upon tarnishing and terrorising the lives of thousands of young and old Kashmiris, especially political activists, under the grab of so-called investigations, should spare some time to penalise those who killed and charred more than 60 humans at Sopore on 6th January 1993.”“Indian occupation in Jammu Kashmir is marked by massacres like Sopore. Massacres at Gaw Kadal, Batamaloo Bypass, Zakoora, Masahli Mohala in Srinagar, Bijbihara Islamabad, Handwara, Kupwara, Baderwah, Poonch and at many other places are actually a glaring example of how India is keeping Jammu Kashmir with it by military and police might,” Malik said.“The faces of BSF, CRPF, SOG and Indian army officers and personal that killed about 60 innocents at Sopore and hundreds of others at other places are well-known but till date no one among them has been penalized or booked which shows the apathy of so-called Indian democracy towards Kashmiris,” JKLF chairman added.He said the “so-called rulers” should save some time to investigate and penalize the killers in uniform and deliver justice to those brutalized by forces.
