Muslim migrant families from Keran Sector of frontier district Kupwara Monday staged a protest here in Press Enclave Srinagar demanding probe into irregularities done in the distribution of relief and aid by district administration Kupwara. District administration Kupwara in North Kashmir has deprived 19 Muslim migrant families of aid and relief who were ‘forcibly vacated by Indian Army in 1990 from their native place Bore in Keran Sector.“Our ancestors lived in Bore Keran Sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district. After the eruption of militancy, army ‘forcibly’ vacated us from our native place in 1990 with a promise that government will provide us aid and relief,” the migrants told news agency CNS adding that they have lost their identity and have been living in scattered form.  They said in 1993 Government issued a formal order under which all the 19 migrated families were entitled for aid and relief. “From past couple of years, we are being deprived of this relief. While the irony is that some ‘corrupt’ officials have entered the names of their relatives in the migrant list and are getting benefits,” they said.A clerk in Kupwara District Administration Relief Section office has been misleading the top officials in this regard. The fact is that instead of we people, the relief is being given to those who were lately and illegally enlisted into the migrant list,” the protesters said.“The irony is that the name of a former MLA and an ICDS official has also been illegally entered into the list of migrants.” (CNS)
