LA panel examines CAG’s audit paras of Transport Department

Asks for auction of non-operational vehicles

 The Committee on Public Undertakings (PUC) of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Tuesday directed the Transport department to prepare detailed plan for promoting the functioning of Transport Department by way of Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.The Committee, which met under the Chairmanship of MLA, Sat Paul Sharma to examine CAGs Audit Paras pertaining to the Transport Department here today asked the concerned to condemn all damaged and old vehicles immediately.The panel desired that the revenue earned by the auction of non-operational vehicles should be used for utilization of creating assets which they said would be developed for new business units so that the general public is benefited.  Threadbare discussions were held on the CAGs Audit Paras which include unauthorized utilization of Funds (2006-07), leakage of revenue, operation performances, recovery of cost operation besides overall activities of the department.Legislator, Raja Manzoor Ahmed, Rajeev Sharma, Mohammad Khalil Bandh, Rajesh Gupta and Vikram Randhawa attended the meeting and gave their suggestions for further improvement of the Transport Department.The Committee was not satisfied with the reply and asked the concerned officials to submit comprehensive reply in this regard for scrutiny of the Committee Members in its next meeting.  

While discussing the issue of audit para regarding pilferage of Revenue, the panel asked the Transport Department to formulate a Committee in this regard and submit their report within two months for examination of the Committee. It also asked them to expedite the process of Court Case in this regard.After detailed discussion, the Committee dropped some audit para after satisfactory reply from the Department.Earlier, the Commissioner Secretary, Hemant Kumar Sharma briefed the Committee about the Action Taken Reports on audit paras pertaining to Transport Department and assured the panel that the directions given by Committee will be implemented in letter and spirit.Among others, Senior Deputy Account General, AG Office JK, Tsewang Tharchain, Special Secretary Assembly, R L Sharma, Director Finance S K Sen, Manager Finance G N Bhat and other Senior Officers of Transport Department and Assembly Secretariat were present in the meeting.
