Shrine Board and Dr. D.P. Shetty review Hospital functioning

Governor N. N. Vohra, Chairman, and Members of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board held extensive discussions with Dr. Devi Shetty, Founder and Chairman Narayana Health, with whom the Shrine Board has collaborated for running the Superspeciality Hospital, Kakryal, to review the functioning of this tertiary care Hospital, at Kakryal today. Governor had invited Dr. Shetty to visit Kakryal to enable on spot discussions about all outstanding issues regarding the growth of the Hospital.The meeting was attended Dr. E. Sreedharan, Mr. B. B. Vyas, Dr. Ashok Bhan, Mr. H. L. Maini, Mr. Justice (Retd) Permod Kohli and Maj. Gen. (Retd) Shiv Kumar Sharma, all Board Members; Mr. Jitendra Kumar Singh, Chief Executive Officer; Dr. M. K. Kumar, Additional CEO of the Board; Dr. (Brig) M. M. Harjai, Chief Administrative Officer, SMVDNSH; and Mr. M. M. Gupta, Chief Engineer, from the Shrine Board. On behalf of Narayana Hospital, besides Dr. Devi Shetty the meeting was attended by Mr. Sunil Kumar CN, Regional Director, NH; Dr. E. Rupert, Clinical Director, NH; Dr. Suneet Marwah, Chief Executive Officer; and Mr. Manu Ramachandar, Facility Director of the SMVDNSH. 

The meeting expressed satisfaction over the functioning of the Hospital in the past 19 months. It is relevant to recall that this 230-bedded Hospital, set up by the Shrine Board, was formally inaugurated on 19 April 2016 by Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India. The meeting noted that the number of patients availing tertiary medical care at the SSH Kakryal has grown manifold and, keeping this in view, the need has been felt to further strengthen, expand and upgrade the diagnostic and treatment facilities at this Hospital to meet the emerging requirements of the pilgrims, people of the adjoining areas, the State at large and the Northern Region, developing it as a centre which provides excellent patient care.Considering the emerging requirements, the meeting deliberated on the need for strengthening the existing diagnostic and treatment facilities by deploying additional medicos, paramedics and equipments, besides planning for Phase-II (500 bedded) Hospital.The Governor emphasised the need for deployment of more doctors and other staff and, side by side, ensuring that Consultants of repute from various NH Hospitals in the country visit SSH Kakryal on a regular basis to facilitate specialised treatment.

Referring to the PET CT facility at the SSH Kakryal, Governor underscored the crucial need for expeditiously commissioning this facility for the benefit of the people.This facility, not presently available elsewhere in the region will, interalia, immensely help in early diagnosis of cancer.Dr. Shetty assured the Governor that reputed Consultants from the various NH Hospitals will be regularly visiting the Super Specialty Hospital and for this purpose a comprehensive schedule of visits will be drawn and notified well in advance so that the maximum number of patients can benefit from their services. Other matters that came up for discussion in the meeting included functioning of Jammu OPD run by SSH Kakryal, establishment of OPD-cum-Information Centre by NH at Srinagar, setting up of a Day Care Facility by the Hospital at Jammu to facilitate the people, to-date status of empanelment of the Hospital with various Central organisations and the need for strengthening various Specialties and other patient care services, wherever required.Governor, accompanied by the Board Members and Dr. Devi Shetty, visited the various diagnostic and treatment units in the Hospital and took an on spot view of the arising expansion requirements of infrastructure and other facilities to provide high quality medical care at affordable cost.
