Udhampur adm discusses measures to de-congest traffic

District Development Commissioner, Ravinder Kumar convened a meeting with various stakeholders to discuss the measures for de-congestion of traffic in the Town.Raising serious concern regarding increase in the number of accidents and congestion of traffic at important road junctions, DDC stressed for initiating stringent measures to curb reckless driving and creating mass awareness regarding safe driving and right parking to prevent road accidents and eliminate traffic congestion. He also stressed on motivating commuters to use helmets, seat beats and maintain speed limit besides prohibit use of mobile while driving.Directions were also given to the officers of Traffic Police and Assistant Regional Transport Officer to hold joint nakkas in the main chowks to avoid traffic violation and take stern action against the traffic violators.DDC also exhorted upon the officers of PWD, BRO, municipality and other concerned departments to remove encroachments from roadsides for smooth passage of traffic. He further instructed them to install signage depicting traffic/regulatory signs at no parking zone, zebra crossing etc.He called for preparing detailed plan to develop new parking zones and directed CEO MC Udhampur to remove illegal Rehris and Farhis for smooth traffic movement.Threadbare discussions were also held to reduce frequent traffic snarl-ups and necessary instructions in this regard were given to Traffic Police personnel’s. Representatives of transport unions were asked to encourage the drivers to wear uniform while driving.Among others, Chief Planning Officer, Ashok Khajuria, Xen PWD, Mohd Abdullah, CEO MC, Santosh Kotwal, ARTO, Er. Kuldeep Singh, Dy. SP HQ, Kameshwar Puri, Tehsildar Udhampur, Javed Iqbal, AD Planning, Darshan Kumar and other officers of different departments besides representatives of various transport union were present in the meeting.
