Governor Acharya Devvrat gives away prices to winner of painting competition

Governor Acharya Devvrat conferred prizes to winner students of State level painting competition in award distribution ceremony organised by Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL) for promoting the "National Awareness Campaign on Energy Conservation" at Raj Bhawan here today.The competition was held under the National Campaign on Energy Conservation of Ministry of Power and Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Government of India. Acharya Devvrat urged the children to come forward and educate their families, neighbourhood and society about the importance of energy efficiency. He said that energy played vital role in the development of nation and it was the responsibility of every citizen to conserve every bit of it.While congratulating the winner students, he said that they were talented and creative for which their parents and teachers need appreciation. He said that such activities should be result oriented and added that no doubt we have passed the theoretical part but must concentrate on practical aspects. He stressed to conserve energy and to change the mind-set of the people in this regard."Our natural resources are limited and excessive use of these sources should be avoided and to be used in full discretion or sense", he said.
He said that unless children were taught values like discipline, patriotism, sensitivity towards those in need, they could not become good citizens. He urged the teachers to sensitise young minds towards issues like environment protection and selfless service towards society.He lauded the efforts of SJVNL and its contribution towards the society through various welfare activities especially the cause of energy conservation. He congratulated the children for exhibiting extraordinary talent and reaching the final level of the competition which would enable them to compete at national level. He said that they should learn to work hard in life and face all challenges with sincerity, dedication and determination with complete focus on their goal to be successful in life. He said that with the inspiration of SJVNL on enery conservation, the Rajbhawan had taken necessary steps to check the misuse of power and within one year it has saved power costing more than eight lakh rupees.The Governor distributed cash prizes of Rs 20,000, Rs 15000, Rs 10,000 to winners who were adjudged 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the competition besides 10 Consolation prizes of Rs 2500 each in each category. He also honoured Block Education Officers for their contribution in holding the event successfully.
Chief Vigilance Officer, SJVN Shri Shyam Singh Negi honoured the Governor and said that power conservation was an important issue in the present context and we should utilize it with utmost care.. He said that as many as 4,52,371 students from various schools from all over the State articipated in the first level competition and SJVNL involved Education Directorate for inviting participationNo. 1034/2017-PUB -2-from government schools. About 100 students from various schools of the State participated in the competition.He said that this year the painting competition was organized in two categories. Category 'A' included class 4th to class 6th and category 'B' included class 7th to class 9th. The winners of Category A would participate in National Level Competition scheduled to be held in December, 2017 in New Delhi. A colourful cultural programme was also presented by the children on the occasion.Shri Bijay Prasad, Additional General Manager proposed vote ofthanks.General Manager Shri A K Mukherji, Shri M. L. Azad, Additional Director Elementary Education, Members of Jury, Students, staff and officers of SJVNL were present on the occasion.
