Cautioning against the sweet-talk of the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today asked the Non Resident Indians currently in Punjab not to get carried away by his lies and confirm and cross check the facts themselves. The PCC President reminded the NRIs that Sukhbir Badal and his father had made similar promises five years ago and nothing had been done on the ground and that is why they did not have the courage to organise an NRI meet for a long time. “Now they might have thought that you must have forgotten all those commitments they made and hence they decided to hold a meet”, he said in a statement issued here today.Capt Amarinder maintained that Sukhbir cannot hide the reality by presenting a rosy picture before the NRIs who know it too well that the state is bankrupt and the debt is out of control. If Sukhbir thinks that by making a presentation in a five star hotel he can hide the harsh realities, he is mistaken as NRIs move around Punjab and are quite aware about the prevailing situation in Punjab.Inviting the NRIs for interaction, he said, they were welcome to put forth their point of view with the Congress and also get the right feedback. He said, the government had so much to conceal and that is why it had allowed only selective media inside the venue.

The former Chief Minister maintained that Sukhbir was always high on promise and low on delivery. He said, only a few days ago, the vice president of the youth wing of his party was arrested for assaulting a police officer and an NRI. Moreover, the same youth Akali Dal leader had grabbed the property of an NRI on which he made a night club and the government had not helped the NRI but the Akali leader to grab the property.Lashing out at Sukhbir for questioning his sincerity towards Punjab, Capt Amarinder said, just because he (Sukhbir) has shut his eyes on what is happening in Punjab and what is being orchestrated by his own party workers does not mean everything is going on well. He pointed out, the recent happenings in Punjab were self speaking.“Whether I say it or not and whether you agree to it or not it will hardly make any difference as the situation is for everybody to see him/herself”, he told Sukhbir while advising him not try to befool anyone, much less the NRIs who are well informed and well learnt to believe his lies.
