The Local Government, Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister, Punjab Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu today said that the step motherly treatment meted out to Abohar during the past decade would be rectified and development would be carried out full steam. He further said that whereas Abohar got 420th ranking on hygienic index previously but soon enough unprecedented development would be carried out which would propel the city amongst top 10 cities.The minister was addressing a huge gathering on the occasion of starting scores of development oriented works including modifying the sewerage system under AMRUT scheme at a cost of Rs. 163.60 crore and providing clean drinking water to the people of the city. He said that no stone would be left unturned to speed up the development projects in the city and turn it into a bastion of progress. He also came down heavily on the previous SAD-BJP regime for exploiting the people of the State during past 10 years and being involved in scams and said that the focus of Congress would only be on development.

Announcing to release the grant amounting to Rs. 10 crore for development centric projects in Abohar, Mr. Sidhu divulged that another Rs. 500 crore would be spent on the beautification of the city. Disclosing more, he said that in a first, the canal water issue would be resolved. He also said that the present state government had commenced a major initiative of making online the maps of the buildings. He also added that the women had always been accorded respect during congress rule.Interacting with the mediapersons on the eve, Mr. Sidhu said that the congress government would fulfill every promise made. He also elaborated that the probe regarding the illegal encroachments during the tenure of SAD-BJP government is in final stages and soon the culprits would be behind bars. Terming the shunning of VIP culture as a symbol of progressive thinking of the congress, he said that this has been appreciated by the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. He further thundered that the faultlines left behind by the previous SAD-BJP regime are being corrected and the State is marching towards progress during congress rule. 

Earlier, the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) President and Member of Parliament Chaudhary Sunil Kumar Jakhar in his address said that the Abohar has been witness to development only in congress rule. He also said that the development of Abohar done at a cost of Rs. 22 crore 20 years ago was brought to a halt owing to step motherly treatment in past 10 years. He further said that Abohar would continue to occupy a special place in his heart. He also added that changing the face of Abohar and bringing it on the developmental index is his top priority and he would resolve the problems of the people of abohar and gurdaspur.On the occasion, the Adviser of the Local Government Department Dr. Amar Singh, Deputy Commissioner Fazilka Mrs. Isha Kalia, SSP Fazilka Dr. Ketan Baliram Patil, Chief Engineer Punjab Water Supply & Sewerage Board Mr. K.P. Goyal, SDM Abohar Poonam Singh, Former District President of Youth Congress Mr. Sandeep Jakhar, District President of Congress Mr. Vimal Thathai, President Abohar Block Mr. Sudhir Nagpal and others were also present.
