DDC lauds efforts of UMEED for providing sustainable livelihoods

To provide direct linkage of different flagship programmes of government to the members of   Self Help Groups SHGs) of UMEED, a one day awareness cum sensitization program was organized under  Dean Dayal Upadaya Grameen Koshal Yojana at  UMEED Block Training Centre Chenani  in Udhampur District here  today.District Development Commissioner Udhampur, Ravinder Kumar was the chief guest while Additional Mission Director, JKSRLM (UMEED) Jammu, Kapil Sharma  presided over the function.Addressing the Community cadre of UMEED including leaders of SHGs Village Organisations, Cluster level federations, the DDC lauded the efforts of JKSRLM for providing sustainable livelihood for the poor women of the district.The DDC assured that all out efforts would be put in place by the District Administration to link all members of SHGs under UMEED with government sponsored schemes especially designed to raise their socio-economic status by converging number of programmes of different departments like Agriculture, Horticulture, Sheep & Animal Husbandry, Social Welfare and fisheries.Additional Mission Director JKSRLM assured the district authorities that the Mission shall strive to provide support to rural poor women. He informed that the project is being presently implemented in Three Blocks of Udhampur District and two more blocks are going to be taken up in the current financial year for implementing the programme.JKSRLM has formed about 1207 Self Help Groups in the district which are federated to 125 Village organizations. Some Women have taken initiative in CMSA /Non pesticide management farming; currently 140 farmers are cultivating about 800 Kanal of land under CMSA.District Project Manager JKSRLM, Dr. Jagdish Mehra conducted the proceedings of the programme.Among others SDM Chenani, District heads of Agriculture, Horticulture , Animal Husbandary , Sheep Husbandry  Social Welfare and  Block Programme  Manager UMEED Chenani were present on the Occasion.
