Serious efforts on ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign need of hour: DDC Kupwara

The Social Welfare department Kupwara in collaboration with ICDS Project Kupwara and district administration today celebrated week long signature campaign “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” at Kupwara. The function was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner, Kupwara Khalid Jahangir.The District Social Welfare Officer, Kupwara, Peer Mumtaz Ahmad, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Education Officer, DEPO, Chief Planning Officer and District Information Officer besides 200 Supervisors, Anganwadi workers under the close supervision of Project Officer, ICDS, Kupwara marked their signatures on the banner displayed for the purpose.The Speakers Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Kupwara, District Social Welfare Officer, Project Officer ,ICDS Kupwara and others threw light on the topic for the weeklong signature campaign and discussed girl child related issues including female foeticide, discrimination, education, nutrition. It was mentioned that any discrimination against females needs deep deliberations and remedial measures could be worked out at all levels .It was given out that girls are making their presence felt in every field like education, literature, Science, sports activities by way of their illustration skills for which they deserves appreciation and recognition as well. The speakers impressed upon the all stake holder to play their action role in this behalf.A seminar was also conducted by the Social Welfare Department in collaboration with the ICDS Project, Kupwara where the associates presented variety of cultural and ethical items to mark the occasion at Town Hall Kupwara. The seminar was addressed by the ACR Kupwara, CPO, Executive Officer, MCK, District Coordinator, Education department exhorted upon the participants that sex determination of the foetus is a major social evil all those involved in such activities should be booked as per the law of the land.
