Governor directs to hold meeting of Senate on time

Governor Acharya Devvrat while presiding over the 14th meeting of Senate at Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University Horticulture and Forestry Nauni in district Solan today gave directions to hold meeting of Senate within stipulated time and expressed his concerns that only 14 meetings of Senate were being held during the 32 years since the formation of University and also this meeting being held after 2011.Acharya Devvrat took cognizance of absence of nominated members and meeting being attended by the representatives on their behalf. He directed to take these important meetings seriously in the future and not to make it a mere formality. He said that after every nine months, a meeting of Senate should be made mandatory to discuss various issues, especially providing of funds on time and to take required steps for the smooth functioning of University.The Governor said that the research scholars of University should be attached with 15 to 20 farmers in the future and their research work should be based on the farming fields so that they can understand the problems and find out solutions. He stressed to make the material of farming available in Hindi and local language for farmers and horticulturists.

The Governor also laid emphasis on better coordination between Agriculture, Horticulture Departments and University and said that Regulatory Units should be formed to hold the meetings after every 6 months. While giving the example of Sikkim, he said that with the implementation of strict rules, the state has became an organic state, but with the use of various insecticides and pesticides the land of Himachal Pradesh has become barren.He said that the foreign-funded projects, which had been completed, should be utilized for contract farming so that the University would be benefitted.  He said that the students of University should be educated about discipline.Governor said that the supply of various kinds of plants prepared by University should be doubled according to the demand. Discussions should be held to find ways to double the income of farmers by 2022.Vice Chancellor of Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University Horticulture and Forestry Nauni, Dr. H.C. Sharma briefed Governor about progress and other activities of University. Registrar of University Shri Rajesh Maria conducted the functioning of meeting.
