Abdul Gani Kohli inaugurates DSC, GIS laboratory in Leh

Minister for Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries Department, Abdul Gani Kohli, today inaugurated the newly established Disease Surveillance Centre (DSC) and Geographic Information System (GIS) laboratory of the Sheep Husbandry Department here.The DSC and GIS have been established under the Pashmina Promotion Programme of Ministry of Textiles, GoI.The Disease Surveillance Centre is a high-tech laboratory facility currently being operated by trained officers of the Department who are supervised by the District Sheep Husbandry Officer (Leh).So far in the current year, some 1600 faecal samples and 60 blood samples have been analysed for detection of various parasitic, bacterial and mycoplasmal diseases.The Department plans to establish facilities for molecular diagnosis of diseases through tests like PCR in near future.Similarly, the GIS is a powerful computer system that stores, displays and analyses data associated with geographic location. It was informed that, currently, the lab is working on the rangeland dynamics of Changthang, which includes mapping all seasonal pastures of all nomadic communities in the district.On the occasion, Kohli also inspected the Poultry Hatchery Centre at Chanspa, which is the first highest altitude hatchery plant. He congratulated the Animal Husbandry Department for its efforts.CEC LAHDC Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo, Commissioner Secretary ASH Department R.K.
