UMEED striving for better marketing opportunities

To explore marketing potential for the products manufactured by Self Help Groups (SHGS) formed under NRLM (UMEED), the district administration Udhampur and JKSLRM today signed an agreement for opening sale out at a prime location of this highway town.The agreement was signed by District Development Commissioner Arvind Sharma and Additional Mission Director JKSRLM Jammu Kapil Sharma.Under the agreement, the DDC Udhampur (Chairman District Rural Development Agency) allotted a Govt Shop for facilitating the members of Self Help Groups formed under UMEED, for sale and marketing of their Products. The out let shall act as a platform for sale of products like organic vegetables, Horticulture and other agricultural produces, handicraft products, dairy and poultry items.Speaking on the occasion, the DDC lauded the efforts of JKSRLM for providing sustainable livelihood to the poor women of Udhampur District. He stressed on the need to take the Mission to the poorest of the poor sections of the society to improve their income. He expressed hope that the facility of sale outlet would provide SHG members an opportunity to earn better returns as well as to showcase their products.

Additional Mission Director JKSRLM, assured that the Mission shall strive to provide support to every rural poor woman of the district. He informed that the project is being presently implemented in three Blocks of Udhampur District, while two more blocks are being covered during the current financial year.The consistent efforts of Dr. Jagdesh Mehra Project Officer DRDA, Udhampur in supporting   various activities of UMEED, were also appreciated.In District Udhampur JKSRLM has formed about 1207 Self Help Groups, federated to 125 Village organizations. Through micro financing women members have upgraded their livelihoods, by   setting up petty shops, upgrading dairy and agriculture farming, secondary livelihoods in handicrafts etc. Some Women have taken initiative In CMSA /Non pesticide management farming; Currently 140 Farmers are cultivating about 800 Kanals of land under CMSA.On the occasion, Block Programme Manager JKSRLM Javaid Ahmad Mir, and Project Manager Non Pesticide Management Mr. Sushil Sharma were also present.
